The view from just past the Globe at Durlston Country Park. Looking towards the Ise of Wight. (30th Dec 24)
I like Swanage. I first visited as a child at 10 years old - School trip for a few days.
We stayed at the Youth Centre (proper name?) and had bunk beds. As me and the girl I was partnered with both wanted the top bunk we took it in turns... that meant I had to sort the bedding twice a day lol. I tidied up in the morning, she didn't so I had to get the bed in order just to get in it! The other kids cried each night as they had never left home/parents for such a long time before - I had so didn't cry... that meant' I got no sleep the whole time. such fun.
Thankfully the views of Swanage made up for all this.
A dash of rainbow in Swanage Bay
A lot of photographers say the worse the weather the better the photos.
True... just not this particular photo.
I remember the teachers rushing us to catch a bus or coach to go to the Globe at Durlston Country Park and we ran through a pottery shop... I practically ran backwards as I wanted to look at the pottery - I didn't care about dino footprints which was one of the reasons for the visit to Durlston. (I love handmade and master crafters!).
I remember the Globe and the walk along the cliff edges, it looks a lot different now (43 years later!).
One of the teachers pointed out the kitchen tiles down in the sea - they once were part of a house that had been a mile back at one point... This was the first time I witnessed the affects of erosion and the power of the sea.
I was on the pier so tried to see if I could stitch two photos together... it did not go well. sigh
